A western import and remix, Omelette Rice is a favorite with children but also a quick and healthy meal for adults and when done well, can be surprisingly delicious.

Rice wrapped in an omelette topped with tomato sauce. The basic permise of the dish is not really much more complicated than that, however really nice Omurice has mixed in extra ingredients for an unique taste. A favourite of “When Japan” is Denny’s Cheese Omurice, which is only ¥800 and worth a trip into Denny’s, especially if you combine it with their awesome seasonal desserts (caloric overload!).

There are a few specialized restaurants that focus on Omurice such as Rakeru, which has locations all over Japan. There is a specialty store in Harajuku called Tamago Kitchen – Harajuku Omu, which is a fairly famous for Omurice although it is pretty cramped down there and the quality was not necessarily higher than anywhere else “When Japan” has tried.
