Close to Shinjuku Station (and many others), Shinjuku Gyoen is a managed park popular in the Cherry Blossom and Fall Leaves seasons. ¥500 to enter and no alcohol allowed.

Shinjuku Gyoen is a great place to spend a few hours on a pleasant walk during a Spring or Fall day. Picnics are allowed (no alcohol) and the ¥500 entrance fee keeps the number of rowdy groups to a minimum.

Entrance fee

The fee has gone up this year from ¥200 to ¥500 (opening times have increased from the stupidly early 5pm to something more fitting to the sunlight hours during summer) and also to pay for light displays. “When Japan” is sure the vast numbers of extra tourists (and their trash) these recent years has little to do with it. Don’t forget that anyone under 16 can get in for free.

Here is the official homepage and an English map of the park.
