Access to Atami Hot Spring Town
There is a direct bullet train to Atami which will be free to JR pass holders. The “Nozomi” trains do not stop there so you will have to get a “Kodama” train (they are very frequent so there is no need to book). You can also get a regular train there on the Tokaido line but it will take twice as long.
Once at Atami station you can walk to the nearby attractions. Below is the walking route to the Atami Ropeway, which is functional rather than for show, in the sense it gets you to the top of a very steep hill that is the location for several of the town’s main tourist attractions. You can of course walk up if you want.
