Risshakuji Shrine

An idyllic Japanese Buddhist temple hidden away in the mountains of Yamagata prefecture, accessible from Yamadera station. The homepage is only in Japanese however it’s not difficult to access. Pay ¥300 for entrance and walk up the mountain to the temple at the top. While “When Japan” recommends travel in November, Yamagata Prefecture is a treat in winter and Risshakuji Temple can be combined with Mount Zao for a special hot springs 2 day trip on your way north.
