Combine with Meiji Village

Inuyama is a pleasant town with a more local atmosphere than the bit city of Nagoya to the south. From Nagoya Station it is a 30 or 40 minutes train ride (depending on if you take the express train or not) along the Meitetsu line.

The main reason to visit is for the main shopping street that is lines with more period buildings full of local-feel restaurants and small stores selling more traditional goods. There is also a special shopping parade called Meiji Avenue (map), which has a dozen or so small restaurants that have kept an old-fashioned look to them.

The other reason is to visit Inuyama castle, which stands out proud on a hill towards the north of the town and offers great views of the whole town from the top floors.
