Manta Ray

Why go to an aquarium in Japan, you may ask. Can’t I see fish at home without coming all the way to Japan? Yes, that may be true but Shinagawa Aquarium does have a unique enough experience to make it worth your while should your family include young kids who are bored with seeing temples.

How to get there

Take a train to Omori-kaigan Station and walk a short distance. The aquarium is actually surrounded by 5 stations within a 1km walking distance so you are spoiled for choice. There is a free bus from Omachi Station however it is difficult to figure out even in Japanese and it only runs every 30 minutes. The Omori-kaigan station is the next stop (2 minutes by train) so you might as well go there and walk to the aquarium.

Why you should pay it a visit

The live shows are actually pretty good and if you haven’t seen one at all, or in a while, it is worth going to see. They have a Dolphin, Seal, Sea Lion and “Underwater diving” show, so plenty to keep you busy. The main attraction is the underwater tunnel, which is actually something special.
