Does “When Japan” love Japanese beef? A resounding yes. We don’t think much explanation is needed so here is a photo gallery, tips when eating and a list of great places “When Japan” recommends.

Tips when ordering Japanese steak

  • If you order the highest rank steak, expect 100-150g to be more than enough before you start feeling sick due to the high fat content.
  • Expect to pay between ¥5,000-¥10,000 per person for the best stuff.
  • You can eat high quality steak at a Teppan-Yaki restaurant but the quality is no better than a normal restaurant but you pay extra for the experience (although “When Japan” does recommend Teppan-Yaki, if you can afford it – prices can go to ¥20,000 per person).
  • You can eat the steak yourself but give the kids a “Hamburg” set meal (steak patty – usually also on the menu) – the high fat content of the steaks will just make them feel sick very quickly.
