Huis Ten Bosch is a Dutch themed amusement park located 2 hours from Nagasaki. Opened in March 25, 1992 no expense seems to have been spared to create an entire European style town as the backdrop for fairly pedestrian attractions.

Huis Ten Bosch is a very family friendly theme park about 2 hours train from Nagasaki city. You can read more about the history of the park here however as a tourist option while in the area, you will mainly want to know if going there is worth it or not.

The answer is that while the park is an expansive recreation of a dutch town that really didn’t need to spend so much money building such perfect replica buildings, the main reason to go, the attractions, are fairly low quality. The park is clearly aimed an families with young children, with various discounts for families with children under 3, and a birthday discount if you are celebrating that month. There is a “Premium Passport” (fast pass) but it only gets you priority on 3 rides maximum (and access to the VIP lounge which is quite nice if you want a break).

Sub-par attractions

Pick and choose your rides carefully as some are better than others. The VR-KING ride, billed as the “Highest•Fastest•Longest! It’s the most powerful roller coaster in the world“, is really quite unconvincing and not worth the exceptionally long wait time, even with the fast-pass. The BAHAMUT DISCO is actually quite fun as a group of 4 (you each hold a controller which is a light wand as use it to hit targets on the walls of the disco for points), although “When Japan” was unconvinced that the system was actually good enough to register the wand movement correctly.

The most unique attraction is probably the night light-up, which when viewed from the Ferris wheel is quite a sight.

There are also numerous restaurants dotted about the park of varying quality and price.

The nearby hotels are all European themed, although if you are coming from Europe perhaps that would be a bit of a wasted experience.
